Tokyo Mew Mew, like most children’s anime, had a low budget. Fortunately, Mew Mew did great for what they had, so it didn’t look cheap… for the most part. Some episodes suffered from the low budget (fortunately, most of them filler): In my opinion, episodes 24 and 46 suffered the most since it really showed during the fight scenes.
BUT…. Believe it or not, the animation in episode 24 was a LOT worse in its first TV airing. Sure, it’s common in Japan to fix up a few animation mistakes before DVD release but this had WHOLE FLIPPIN’ SCENES reanimated. Although, it’s pretty common due to time constraints to complete episodes in time for TV airing. Here are a few examples of how some scenes in episode 24 were fixed up for the DVD release. (TV version on the Left. DVD version on the Right.)
I plan on doing a video showing more stuff like this but I’m currently missing TV versions of episodes 22-52. If anyone has them, please contact me. (You can tell you have a TV version if the video has a timer on the top left corner of the screen.)
